Progressive warrior Huttner moves on from 50 ways to help Obama — to 45 ways fight Trump

ProgressNow founder, national activist, way-left-of-center Renaissance Man and relentless Bronco fan Michael Huttner is an author, too. It seems like just yesterday, and yet so long ago (it was in fact 2009), that his “50 Ways You Can Help Obama Change America” was released.

Now, with that other party — grrrrrrrr! — back in the Oval Office, Huttner and fellow prominent left thinker Markos Moulitsas of the Daily Kos have penned a sequel of sorts befitting the new regime in Washington: “The Resistance Handbook: 45 Ways to Fight Trump.”

And tonight at 7 at the venerable Tattered Cover Book Store (2526 E. Colfax, Denver, 80206), Huttner will be on hand to sign copies. He sent out an email this afternoon urging all to stop by.

His bookishly academic side notwithstanding, Huttner is also a noted prankster and certified master of political stuntcraft. Some of his gags are near-legend, like when he had a plane flown over Denver’s Invesco Field at Mile High just before the 2008 general election towing the banner, “McCain is a Raiders Fan.” That was the election Obama won, in case you’ve forgotten, and perhaps Huttner can take some of the credit for delivering Colorado. Perhaps.

The caper of which he is said to be proudest, though, had nothing to do with politics but rather with his other passion — his hometown team: He snuck into Super Bowl XXXII in San Diego in 1998 — that’s when the Broncos beat the Packers — dressed as a soda vendor. And just for Huttner’s fans, we grabbed the photo from his Facebook page. (Thanks.) So that they, in turn, could see what a true blue (wordplay intended) Bronco fan looks like.

It’s a safe bet even Republican John Elway would have been proud at the time to know a Bronco loyalist would go to such trouble to watch him play. Of course, Elway had other things on his mind. Like winning his first Super Bowl.
