Skywatchers, get ready to greet some snow geese.

Tens of thousands of snow white snow geese will swarm the mountain skies, lakes, and prairies making for a spectacular sight to see in southeastern Colorado this winter.

Marvel at Mother Nature as she goes on full display at the 18th Annual High Plains Snow Goose Festival set to take place from February 6-9, 2020, in Lamar, Colorado. It’s the perfect opportunity to spot some of these birds as they pass through the state. The festival offers a variety of programs, field trips, seminars, and tours including trips to Two Buttes Reservoir, John Martin Reservoir, and Picture and Carrizo Canyons.

Every winter, 120,000 to 200,000 snow geese migrate to Colorado in search of warmer temperatures. Making the journey south, the birds will fly as far as Texas and Mexico.

All presentations during the festival will take place at the Lamar High School located at 1900 South 11th Street in Lamar. Tours will also leave from this same location. For more information on tours and programs and event registration, click here.
