More than 100 people searched for a missing female biker in a Colorado mountain community on Monday, though they were not successful.

The previous evening, at approximately 5:46 PM, the Chaffee County Communications Center got a report of a missing woman that had failed to return home from a bike ride near Maysville. Identified as Suzanne Morphew, 49, it was reported that the woman had gone missing in the area of County Road 225 and Highway 50, which is near Fooses Dam (see map below) and approximately 14 miles west of Salida. It’s also worth mentioning that the 485-mile Colorado Trail cuts through this swathe of land, making it a popular spot for outdoor recreation and backpackers that might be passing through.

An initial search for Morphew took place on Sunday, May 10, stretching into the early morning hours with personnel from Chaffee County Search and Rescue, along with a canine team from the Department of Corrections. The effort was quickly resumed on the following day with help from the Chaffee County Tactical Team. In total, more than 100 people participated in an unsuccessful search for Morphew. The investigation into the female biker’s disappearance remains ongoing.

Morphew is a resident of Maysville, Colorado – a town of 135 residents that’s located on Highway 50 between Salida and Monarch Mountain.
