Armed man dies after being shot by Denver police on South Colorado Boulevard

An armed man died after being shot by officers on Tuesday night, the Denver Police Department said.

The incident happened in the 2400 block of South Colorado Boulevard about 10:30 p.m.

Officers responded to reports of a man with a gun. When they arrived, they found the man fitting the description of the suspect.

Police said the man had a gun in his pocket or waistband.

Police said the man did not listen to the officers’ commands and drew the gun. Police then opened fire, critically wounding him.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

An officer-involved shooting protocol was initiated, with the Denver and Aurora police departments conducting a joint investigation with assistance from the Office of the Independent Monitor.

After the investigation is completed, a report will be sent to the Denver District Attorney’s Office for review.

The name and age of the man who died were not released.
