CPW seeks information in 2 cases of wasted deer meat in Clear Creek County

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers are seeking the public’s help in finding more information about two adult mule deer that were shot and left partially to waste in Clear Creek County earlier this month.

According to CPW, officers found a doe that was shot, lying along Mad Creek Road.

The deer’s hindquarters and one front quarter were removed, and the remaining edible portions of the deer, including the loins and a front quarter, were left to rot.

Six days later, officers received a report about a mature buck that was shot with a muzzleloader in the Jones Pass area.

The deer’s head, loins, tenderloins and portions of meat on the deer’s hind quarters were removed, but both front quarters were left to rot.

By law, hunters are required “to make every reasonable effort to care for and provide for human consumption” the edible parts of harvested game, said Joe Nicholson, a wildlife officer who regularly patrols Clear County Creek’s backcountry.

Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact CPW’s Denver office at 303-291-7227 or Operation Game Thief at 877-265-6648.

Information can also be sent to game.thief@state.co.us. Monetary rewards are often given for information that leads to an arrest.
