Roxborough State Park in Douglas County will hold a series of events throughout October, with a different guided activity almost every day of the month, the park announced Wednesday.

The programs, sponsored by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, are nearly all free, but vehicles entering the park still require an annual pass or a $9 day pass.

The celebration kicks off Friday with the park’s first Rox Ride, a guided tour of the Fountain Valley Trail in an electric golf cart.

The Rox Rides, starting at 10 a.m., will be held every Friday and Saturday of the month, plus one Sunday event, on Oct. 4.

The park is also holding a series of “Roxborough Revealed” hikes, 10 a.m. guided hikes through the park with specific themes.

The Nature Hike is on Saturday, the Mule Deer Hike is on Oct. 10, the Fall Nature Hike is on Oct. 24 and the Bats Hike is on Oct. 31.

Other hikes include the 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. guided Homestead Hike on Oct. 24 and the 6 p.m. Moonlight Hike on Oct. 30.

Calmer options are available through the park’s guided walks. The first is an 8:30 a.m. Bird-Watching Walk on Oct. 18 and the second is an 8:30 a.m. Meditative Nature Walk on Oct. 31.

Guided tours, hikes, walks and lectures are available throughout the park, including at the Lamb Spring Archeological Preserve, the Ken Caryl Ranch Bradford House and the poster and archeology exhibits.

For kids, the junior ranger “Do Rocks Sleep?” guided hike is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 12.

More notable events include the Historic Persse Place Open House on Oct. 4, Photographing Roxborough’s Landscapes and Flowers on Oct. 18 and the International Archaeology Day Expo on Oct. 17.

As part of COVID-19 precautions, group sizes are limited to 10 people each. Participants are required to wear face masks and maintain a 6-foot distance between each other.
