Crews reach 42% containment of Cameron Peak fire

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — Firefighters were able to reinforce fire lines and reach 42% containment of the Cameron Peak fire Sunday due to cooler weather, according to the incident management team.

The fire sparked Aug. 13 near Red Feather Lakes, west of Fort Collins, and has burned 126,251 acres as of early Sunday.

The fire has damaged or destroyed 95 structures so far. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect between 9 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday due to high winds. The warning states winds are expected to blow through the area at 30-35 mph with gusts that could reach up to 50 mph.

Weather and fuel conditions have the potential for extreme fire behavior with possible column development.
