Man ejected from vehicle after law enforcement chase near Hayden dies

A man who was ejected from his vehicle after a law enforcement chase outside Hayden in Routt County on Wednesday morning has died, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Friday.

He was identified as 36-year-old Anthony David Quinn of Oak Creek.

About 6:45 a.m., officers with the Craig Police Department tried to pull over the 36-year-old man, who was driving a late model Honda.

He did not pull over and sped away, the CBI said. Officers did not pursue the vehicle.

A Colorado State Patrol sergeant who was driving on Highway 40 in Hayden saw the man pass him at a high rate of speed, the CBI said, adding that passing was not allowed on that stretch of highway.

The sergeant began to chase the vehicle. After about two miles, the CBI said the sergeant attempted a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver to try to end the chase.

The man’s vehicle hit an embankment and he was ejected, according to the CBI.

He was taken to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora where he later died.

The 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Team is investigating the incident. The sergeant has been placed on routine administrative leave.
