WATCH: Sprinting bear nearly outruns car near Colorado Springs
Though bears might look a bit clumsy when captured on security cameras breaking into trash cans and wandering around backyards, their athleticism is no joke. Capable of running at speeds up to 35 miles per hour, there’s a reason why black bears are at the top of the food chain in Colorado.
Recently, Colorado Parks and Wildlife shared a video of a bear at full sprint near the Colorado Springs airport. Though brief, it’s an amazing and terrifying sight to see as the bear nearly keeps pace with a moving vehicle.
Think you can outrun a bear? Maybe this will change your mind. Never run from a bear. You may trigger its instinct to pursue. If you encounter a bear, back away slowly. Speak calmly. Make yourself look large. If it charges, stand your ground. #BearAware https://t.co/D15JeiUwod pic.twitter.com/Pbt8w1WphV

Long story, short – don’t try to outrun a bear … even if you’re Usain Bolt. Bolt holds the record for fastest human foot speed, set at 27.8 miles per hour…still not fast enough to outrun a bear.
