Breckenridge Ski Resort to open for season Friday

Breckenridge Ski Resort is planning to open for the 2020 ski season Friday amidst an unusually late start to the ski and snowboard season statewide.

In an announcement, the resort said it is confident conditions are good enough for opening day because of upcoming snow forecasts and Keystone’s successful opening last weekend.

Keystone was the second resort in the state to open for the 2020-21 season, and the first near the Front Range.

Dry weather and wildfires have slowed snowmaking efforts at many big-name resorts, including Loveland and Arapahoe Basin ski areas.

Wolf Creek Ski Area was the first in the state to open for the season on Oct. 28. This was the latest statewide opening day since Loveland kicked off the 2015 season on Oct. 29.

Breckenridge is opening with limited trail access and no uphill access.

The resort said it will continue snowmaking efforts as the weather permits, working to expand the open terrain.

The resort will open at 8:30 a.m. Friday with around 90 acres of terrain. Open trails include Springmeier, 4 O’clock and Trygve’s. Open gondolas include BreckConnect Gondola, Colorado SuperChair, 5-Chair and Rip’s Ride.

Reservations for Breckenridge’s opening day will be available beginning at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The resort intends to remain open through Memorial Day.

Opening day through Dec. 7 is exclusively for pass holders only.

All guests will require a reservation and face coverings to access the mountain.
