Denver is scheduled to host the New Orleans Saints at 2:05 p.m. MST Sunday and, according to the Broncos’ statement, are still planning to do so.

“Following confirmed positive COVID-19 test results from one player and two staff members, the Denver Broncos have closed UCHealth Training Center today with the team’s safety in mind,” the Broncos said. “The Broncos will continue preparations for Sunday’s game remotely with virtual meetings. Working closely with medical experts and the league office, we will take all steps necessary to ensure the well-being of the players, coaches and staff.”

This news comes one day after quarterback Jeff Driskel was added to the COVID-19 list, with the team still practicing Thursday because there was no close contacts with Driskel. The Broncos aren’t the only team that has faced COVID issues this week, with the Baltimore Ravens having 12 players test positive this week, which caused their game with the Pittsburgh Steelers, originally scheduled for Thursday, to be postponed until Tuesday.

This is the third time the Broncos have canceled practice because of COVID-19. The team canceled on Oct. 30 after guard Graham Glasgow tested positive and on Nov. 4 due to defensive end Shelby Harris being placed on the COVID list for being a close contact with family members who tested positive.

On Thursday, coach Vic Fangio was asked about the organization’s ability to avoid an outbreak thus far this season.

“Yeah, our guys within the organization headed by (Steve Antonopulos) and Nancy (Svoboda) and Mark Thewes — everybody involved with that has done a great job,” Fangio said. “I think we as coaches have done a decent job of enforcing it and making our players aware of it, but ultimately, 90 percent of the credit needs to go to the players because we’ve had minimal cases of it. And knock on wood, hopefully that will continue, but we know that it could happen at any time with anybody. Our players have done a great job for the most part of trying to do the right thing as it relates to COVID and up to this point they deserve all the credit.”

Fangio went on to say how thankful he was that they were even playing football this year, considering how grim it looked this summer.

“I mean, I had my doubts in July before training camp started, but I am thankful it’s gotten to this point,” Fangio said. “I think we’ll get to the finish line. I’m thankful that the guys that have gotten the virus within our organization have done well with it. I’m thankful that Ed Donatell is on his road to recovery and doing better. And I’m just thankful for being the teammate with these players on this team.”
