Law enforcement officials apprehend suspect accused of robbing and slaying Centennial gas station clerk

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the slaying of a gas station clerk in Centennial late last month.

Information about the suspect is not currently being released, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials said in a news release that they obtained warrants to make the arrest Friday after investigators followed up on several tips.

On Nov. 26, Arapahoe County deputies responded to a report of shots fired at a Valero Gas station at 8236 S. Quebec St. in Centennial shortly before 7 p.m, The Denver Gazette previously reported.

Upon arrival, deputies found the store clerk, who was later identified as 24-year-old Mauricio O. Perez, with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Perez told deputies that the suspect was wearing a mask,  but did not remember anything else about the shooter.

Prior to being transported to a nearby hospital, officials administered first-aid to the victim. He was pronounced dead during emergency surgery.

Through an initial investigation, deputies say the shooter entered the store and asked the clerk for a carton of cigarettes and had a short conversation, before showing a handgun and demanding money and the cigarettes.

Perez complied to the shooter’s demands but when he handed the shooter the items he was shot, officials said.
