The vehicle had been dispatched to the corner of 14th Avenue and Kalamath Street after reports of smoke in a building.
While headed to the location with the vehicle’s lights and sirens operating, the fire vehicle collided with another vehicle, said Pixley.
Authorities said one person in the other vehicle was killed while two others were injured. Information about the victim is not being released at this time.
One firefighter was being evaluated for injuries, according to a tweet by the department shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Denver Police Department has opened an investigation into the traffic accident and will be providing further updates as they become available.
DFD will also be opening its own internal investigation into the fatal crash.
The firefighters involved will be placed on leave only if they are not in a proper state of mind to fulfill their responsibilities, Pixley said.
“We will ensure that this firefighter is healthy and well and we might place them on what we call an administrative leave, but that might be for their own well-being and not for a discipline issue,” Pixley said.
