Man fatally shot by Greeley police identified

Officials in Weld County on Friday identified a wanted man who police fatally shot after a pursuit earlier this week.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office identified the dead man as 32-year-old Christopher A. Dockery of Greeley.

Greeley police say an officer was involved in fatal shooting Tuesday, an investigation is now open

Dockery had active warrants for kidnapping, menacing and robbery that stemmed from a Jan. 5 incident in which he and an accomplice allegedly threatened to kill a Greeley couple with a machete and aluminum baseball bat while holding them captive, the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team said.

Police say they located Dockery leaving a home in Greeley before he entered a car and drove away at 2:34 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle at Reservoir Road and 23rd Avenue, but Dockery led a brief pursuit.

During the pursuit, Dockery was involved in an accident and ran to a Loaf ‘N Jug in the 3200 block of 23rd Avenue in Evans.

Dockery attempted to carjack a vehicle at the gas station while armed with a handgun, but was unsuccessful, officials said.

Police commanded Dockery to surrender, but he refused, and an officer fired a weapon. Dockery was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
