One in custody after Lakewood motel killing, victim ID released

A 34-year-old man was jailed Wednesday night on suspicion of murder in the shooting death Tuesday night at a motel in Lakewood.

Police say Julian J. Rivera was spotted by law enforcement officials in Castle Rock Tuesday night and was taken into custody, said officials from the Lakewood Police Department (LPD).

Police say one person died in a shooting at a motel in Lakewood overnight

Lakewood police officers were dispatched to the Blue Sky Motel at 6205 W. Colfax Ave. at 2:43 p.m. Tuesday morning after multiple reports of a shooting were received. 

Upon the arrival by officers, they located a 29-year-old man with gunshot wounds.

The victim, who was identified as Geronimo Alvarado, later died as a result of his injuries, police said. 

Rivera is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder.
