Weather: Snow expected to continue into the early morning hours Thursday
Slick and snow covered roads began impacting Denver area motorists Wednesday evening and experts say the snow fall will continue throughout the night.
One to five inches of snow accumulation is possible across the Denver metro, but areas around the Palmer Divide are expecting much more snow. Monument had already recorded six inches at 6 p.m. Wednesday, said Russell Danielson, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Boulder.
Portions of Douglas County including Castle Rock, Elbert and Larkspur are currently under a winter weather advisory until 5 a.m. Thursday.
Snowfall is expected to continue to accumulate across Denver, especially in the the northern suburbs, until around 2 a.m., when Danielson says they expect the snow to lighten up into flurries.
Despite the snow persisting overnight, Danielson expects road conditions should be fair Thursday morning.
“With flurries beginning around 2 a.m., this should give the plows enough time to get to the roads,” Danielson said. “I don’t expect the roads for the morning rush to be terrible, but there may still be some slick and snow covered areas.”
Areas such as Lyons, Boulder and Fort Collins are expected to receive slightly more snow than the Denver metro and could hinder the morning commute.
Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to low-teens overnight and although several inches of snow are expected around the Denver metro, much of that snow could be melted by the weekend as daily highs are expected to rise into the mid-40’s by Friday.
