Denver records second-snowiest March on record
With a whopping 34 inches of snowfall, March 2021 was the second snowiest March that Denver has seen, according to the National Weather Service.
The city’s snow totals were pushed over the edge Tuesday night as another 0.4 inches of snow fell at Denver National Airport between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. — the official recording station for the city.
The record for snowiest March remains 2003 when 35.2 inches of snow fell during the month, according to the NWS.
Denver weather: Warming trend begins, continues into Easter weekend
With March’s snowfall, Denver’s winter season snowfall total has reached 67.6 inches — well above the long-term seasonal average of 56.5 inches, according to Weather 5280.
Snowfall totals are expected to keep rising as April is historically Denver’s second snowiest month of the year.
This comes after Denver was hit with its fourth-largest snowstorm in history during the weekend of March 13, dumping 27.1 inches of snow on the city.
March 2021 was also the second wettest March in Denver history, according to the NWS.
Despite blizzard, Colorado mountain snowpack remains below normal
Denver got 3.8 inches of precipitation in the month, beaten only by March 1983 with 4.56 inches. The 3.8 inches of precipitation is 2.96 inches above Denver’s average for the month, according to Weather 5280.
While extensive snowfall is expected in April, the month will start warm with temperatures in the 70s and 80s predicted for the upcoming week.
