Voodoo Doughnut will land at DIA later this year

Soon travelers passing through Denver International Airport will have the opportunity to get a bacon maple bar from one of Denver’s most popular establishments.

Voodoo Doughnut’s third and newest location will sit in the center of Concourse B on the mezzanine level, next to several other new vendors like Shake Shack and Snooze, said Alex Renteria, a spokesperson for DIA.

Denver International Airport brings on new CFO, 2 other senior financial leaders

In recent years, the Portland based company has expanded extensively outside of Oregon to places like Denver, Houston, Orlando and Los Angeles. However, despite great interest from airports across the country, Voodoo’s management team never wanted to open an airport location.

That is until DIA called and wanted to start offering travelers Voodoo certified “Strawberry Go-tarts,” or “Oh Captain, My Captain,” in 2019, said Chris Schultz, Voodoo Doughnut’s CEO.

“Denver loves us and we love Denver,” Schultz said. “It’s a great opportunity for us and we are really looking forward to serving the folks that come through DIA.”

New traffic pattern coming to DIA

In order to bring Voodoo to the airport, Voodoo has partnered with Jennifer Winchester, the owner of JAF Concessions, who has owned and operated eight businesses at DIA over the last 12 years.

In the past, Voodoo used similar partnerships when establishing its Universal Orlando Resort location in Florida and Universal CityWalk in Hollywood and have seen great success, said Schultz.

Winchester said partnering with Voodoo was a no-brainer and is exactly what the airport needs.

“I already see a ton of pink boxes walking through the airport, and they’re obviously getting those at (Voodoo’s) Colfax or Broadway location,” Winchester said.

“This way people won’t have to make a pit stop before heading to the airport, and can just grab a box of donuts and board the airplane. It’s going to be a huge success.”

Voodoo’s newest location will takeover the former SkyMarket location that was owned by Winchester, and was forced to close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But despite the hardship JAF Concessions endured over the last year, the news of Voodoo Doughnuts landing at DIA sent a smile across Winchester’s face.

“Hands down this has been the most difficult year that JAF Concessions has ever experienced,” Winchester said.

“Knowing that we are able to take our space and turn the lights and make it alive again, is a great, great feeling.”

Currently, design review work is underway at DIA, but Schultz is anticipating Voodoo’s newest location to open by the year’s end in one of its largest markets.

“Denver’s continued to support us throughout COVID and kept our lights on and doors opened, so this is just another way to enjoy Voodoo Doughnut when you come to Denver.”
