Colorado homebuilders launch diaper drive

Colorado homebuilders launched a “Builders for Babies Diaper Drive” with the goal of collecting more than 1.5 million diapers for those in need.

HomeAid Colorado is a nonprofit organization that assists agencies helping residents who are homeless or at-risk to be homeless.

Construction industry members such as Richmond American Homes, Lennar and Oakwood Homes help complete building projects and donate resources to those agencies.

“The past four years we’ve averaged collecting over a million diapers each year,” executive director Cindy Bell said in a statement. “In 2021 our goal is to up the ante and secure 1.5 million diapers. While this is a lofty goal, it’s important for our community to rally together and provide the next generation of Coloradans with basic living necessities.”

HomeAid provided stats showing that in pre-pandemic times, up to 1 in 3 Colorado families have limited access to clean diapers, which can cost a family up to $1,000 annually per child.

To donate, visit HomeAid Colorado’s website. The drive runs through May 15. HomeAid plans to distribute the diapers to agencies “from Fort Collins to Telluride” in June.
