Early-morning house fire sends one to hospital

Two people, including a firefighter, were injured during an early-morning house fire in west Denver on Sunday, the Denver Fire Department said.

The firefighter suffered very minor injures, while a civilian was taken to a hospital for unknown injuries, said Greg Pixley, the public information officer for the Denver Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched to the fire in the 200 block of South Knox Court in the Barnum neighborhood about 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Pixley said.

Upon their arrival, crews saw heavy smoke coming from the home and a nearby shed and began fire suppression efforts.

Additionally, firefighters began searching for residents inside the buildings and found a civilian in the shed.

After an initial investigation, officials determined the fire began in the shed and spread to the home, which is under renovation.

Pixley said no one was displaced in the incident.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
