Man killed in powered paraglider crash near Erie
A man was killed after crashing in a powered paraglider Saturday evening outside of Erie, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies said witnesses reported the crash about 6 p.m. in a field north of Arapahoe Road and North 119th Street, just west of Erie Municipal Airport.
Emergency responders found the man unresponsive with serious injuries. Despite more than 20 minutes of lifesaving efforts by medical personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:21 p.m.
The victim was piloting the powered paraglider and was the only occupant, deputies said. His identity and official cause of death will be released by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office after his family has been notified.

Witnesses told deputies that the power paraglider did not appear to have any equipment malfunctions during the crash.
Powered paragliding, also known as paramotoring, is when a pilot operates a paraglider with a back-mounted motor, providing enough thrust to take off in still air and on level ground by the pilot alone.
The cause of the crash is unknown. Detectives from the sheriff’s office are investigating.
The Erie Police Department, Lafayette Fire Department and Mountain View Fire Department also responded and assisted with the incident.
