Woman dies from jumping off overpass after shooting, police chase

One woman is dead after a shooting early Thursday morning led to a police chase and her allegedly jumping off of an overpass, the Denver Police Department said.

Police said they received a report of shots fired at 12:36 a.m. at 1190 Auraria Pkwy, the Marriott SpringHill Suites hotel near the Auraria campus.

The Auraria Campus Police Department called DPD and requested assistance while ACPD officers were pursuing a suspect vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting.

The suspect vehicle had one male and one female inside, police said.

Officers chased the vehicle to Alameda Avenue and Kalamath Street, at which point the female exited the vehicle and jumped from the elevated portion of Alameda Avenue that goes over U.S. Highway 87, police said.

The identity of the deceased woman will be released by the Office of the Medical Examiner after her family has been notified.

Police said they do not believe anyone was injured during the shots fired incident that started the chase.

The investigation into what led to the shots fired and the woman’s death is ongoing.
