Pedestrian hit, killed by A Line train near Peoria Station

A pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by an RTD A Line train near the Peoria Station, the Denver Police Department said.

Police said the collision happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Smith Road between Havana Street and Peoria Street, next to the Denver County Jail.

Witnesses told police that the pedestrian was crossing the tracks when they were hit by the train.

Medical personnel responded, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No information about the victim is available. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity and cause of death after their family has been notified.

RTD A Line train collides with vehicle in Aurora

Police said they are investigating the incident to determine whether the pedestrian or train operator was at fault.

Police would not comment on if the incident appears to have been accidental.

This is the second collision the RTD A Line train has been involved in this week.

The train, which runs from Union Station to Denver International Airport, was involved in a collision with a vehicle in Aurora on Wednesday afternoon that left the vehicle driver seriously injured, the Aurora Police Department said.

That incident is still under investigation by police and RTD. It is unclear what led to the crash.
