Greeley man sentenced to 48 years in prison for fatally shooting his wife’s friend
A Greeley man was sentenced to 48 years in prison last week for fatally shooting his wife’s friend inside of her car in 2019, the Weld County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Jaime Gonzalez-Quezada, 42, received the maximum possible sentence after he was found guilty of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment for the slaying of 24-year-old Gilberto Marron.
“There’s nothing within my power to repair the pain of a mother or the victim’s family,” said Judge Vince Vigil at sentencing. “I can’t help them heal. I can’t bring their son back. The only thing I can do is acknowledge the severity of this tragic crime.”
The shooting happened about 5 a.m. on Oct. 9, 2019, outside of the 16th Street Gym in Greeley.
Marron and Gonzalez-Quezada’s wife were in the back seat of the wife’s car outside of the gym, where she worked as a personal trainer. The wife said Marron was her friend but Gonzalez-Quezada believed the two were having an affair, according to court documents.
Shooter to receive life in prison for murder of Golden man
Gonzalez-Quezada approached the car and fired several shots, striking Marron multiple times. The wife narrowly avoided being shot by scrambling into the driver’s seat, according to court documents.
After the shooting, Gonzalez-Quezada walked up to his wife and said something along the lines of, “This is what you wanted, isn’t it?” before fleeing the scene. He turned himself into police nearly five hours later.
“(Marron’s) life hadn’t even started yet,” said Deputy District Attorney Ashley Fetyko. “To have him gunned down in the parking lot like he was, it’s egregious beyond words. There is absolutely no excuse for why his life was ended.”
Fetyko and Assistant District Attorney Robb Miller prosecuted the case.
Gonzalez-Quezada will service his sentence in the Colorado Department of Corrections.
