Northern Colorado playground destroyed by fire in middle of day in suspected arson

Officials are investigating a suspected arson after a popular playground in Windsor was destroyed by fire Monday afternoon.

Police said the Village East Playground on Park Edge Circle caught fire about 2:30 p.m. No one was injured, but the playground and surrounding turf suffered significant damage before crews were able to extinguish the fire.

The playground will be closed indefinitely awaiting replacement, city officials said.

It will likely take the city four to five months and about $300,000 to replace the playground, according to the Windsor Department of Parks, Recreation and Culture.

The investigation into the suspected arson is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the fire or has information about what happened is asked to call Windsor’s non-emergency dispatch at 970-674-6400 and then press option 1.
