State fair adds new contest: Colorado master showmanship competition
Each year, winners of the Colorado State Fair’s livestock and horse show competition go home with a new ribbon. But this year, someone will go home with an inaugural ribbon as the fair is launching a new Colorado master showmanship competition.
The newest addition to the competition is open anyone between the ages of 8 and 18 who have won their county’s master showmanship class or equivalent to participate.
Each contestant will be required to show five livestock species — a market steer, goat, lamb, hog and horse — while also completing a written exam that will demonstrate their knowledge of each livestock species and overall agricultural expertise, according to a release from the state fair.
“The Colorado State Fair is proud to support the next generation of farmers and ranchers and the youth competitions brings out Colorado’s most talented and promising young agriculturists,” said Scott Stoller, the general manager of the fair.
Coloradans interested in competing in the fair’s newest event can sign up by clicking here. Registration is open through Aug. 2.
Last year, the Colorado State Fair continued through the COVID-19 pandemic, but was scaled down in its Pueblo home. This year, everything looks to return to normal for 10 days from Aug. 27 through Sept. 6, according to the release.
