Loudoun County school board member faces removal as petition gains signatures
A Loudoun County school board member may face removal from her position after a parent group filed a petition for her removal with thousands of signatures.
Fight for Schools filed a petition with the Loudoun County Circuit Court on Thursday for the removal of Atoosa Reaser, the vice chairwoman for the Loudoun County school board, Fox News reported. While an earlier petition received 1,795 signatures, the current petition has received approximately 1,859 signatures from residents in the Algonkian District.
“The parents of Loudoun County are simply not going to stop utilizing their voices and the rule of law to make a change in our schools,” said Ian Prior, the executive director of Fight for Schools.

Reaser marks the third person on the school board to face removal after the discovery of a private Facebook group called “Anti-Racist Parents of Loudoun Coundon,” which allegedly included multiple school board members, that created a list of parents who opposed critical race theory.
Other members included in the group were Beth Barts, Brenda Sheridan, Ian Serotkin, and Leslee King.
In order for an elected or appointed official in Virginia to be removed from their position, a petition must reach a certain amount of signatures from registered voters within the official’s district, being equal to 10% of the votes that were cast in the previous election for that person, according to Virginia’s state code.
Even after the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation surrounding the Facebook group, Reaser remained in the group, according to the outlet.
Additionally, Reaser was involved in another similar private Facebook group, “Loudoun Parents, Teachers and Staff for Evidence-Based Safe Schooling.”

Several parents involved with Fight for Schools announced to a school board meeting on Nov. 9 that they had received 2,000 signatures needed to remove Sheridan, chairwoman of the Loudoun County school board, from her position.
Prior to this, Barts, who had been facing removal as well, announced on Oct. 15 that she would be resigning from her position effective Nov. 2.
The Washington Examiner reached out to Fight for Schools and Atoosa Reaser for comment but did not receive a response.
