Rittenhouse judge kicks out MSNBC for allegedly following jury bus

The judge in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial has kicked out MSNBC from the remainder of the trial after an employee was stopped Wednesday night after allegedly following the jury bus.

Judge Bruce Schroeder called the matter deeply disturbing and serious during a brief statement from the bench Thursday.

“I have instructed that no one from MSNBC News will be permitted in this building,” Schroeder said. “This is a very serious matter and I don’t know what the ultimate truth of it is but absolutely it would go without much thinking that someone was following a jury bus… that is an extremely serious matter and will be referred to the proper authorities.”

The man spotted trailing the bus identified himself as James J. Morrison and told authorities he was following instructions from his boss.

Schroeder said the jury has been brought to and from the courthouse in a bus with darkened windows.

“The police stopped him because he was following in the distance of about a block and went through a red light, pulled him over, and inquired of him what was going on and he gave that information. He stated he was instructed by [a supervisor] in New York to follow the jury bus,” Schroeder said.

Kenosha police tweeted that the person was briefly taken into custody and was issued several traffic-related citations.

“There was no breach of security regarding the jury, nor were there any photographs obtained, “Kenosha PD said.

In a statement, NBC News acknowledged the citations but said their freelancer was never told to contact the jurors.

“While the traffic violation took place near the jury van, the freelancer never contacted or intended to contact the jurors during deliberations, and never photographed or intended to photograph them,” NBC News said in a statement. “We regret the incident and will fully cooperate with the authorities on any investigation.”

The incident is still under investigation.

This isn’t the first time the identity of the jurors or those involved in the case has been threatened.

Several days ago, Schroeder said court officers saw a person take a video of the jurors. The judge said court officers had taken the cellphone from the person recording jurors getting on a bus and erased the footage. He added that new procedures would be instituted to prevent a similar situation.

That incident was followed by another on Friday when a group on an extremist-friendly messaging platform posted the picture and home address of the prosecutor Thomas Binger.

Kenosha Strong Patriots shared a post from a user that revealed the lawyers home address and picture, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.

Rittenhouse is charged in the fatal shootings of Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26. He also wounded Gaige Grosskreutz, 28, after shooting him in the arm and blowing off his bicep.

The youth cadet from Antioch, Illinois, faces five criminal charges ranging from intentional homicide to recklessly endangering safety that could land him behind bars for the rest of his life, though Schroeder allowed the jury to consider lesser counts.

Deliberations began Tuesday morning.
