Two dead following head-on collision near Bailey

Two people are dead following a head-on crash Thursday afternoon near Bailey, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Authorities received reports just before 3 p.m. of a vehicle driving recklessly north on U.S. Highway 285. Several minutes later, a trooper located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued driving, according to the Colorado State release on Friday.

At 3:06 p.m., the vehicle, later identified as a 2009 Saab passenger car, lost control and collided into a 2000 Ford pick up in the southbound lane.

Investigators learned the Saab was listed as stolen in Denver. The two occupants in the stolen vehicle were produced dead on scene, said Trooper Gary Cutler, a spokesman for the Colorado State Patrol.

Two people inside the Ford truck were seriously injured but expected to survive. They were transported to Swedish Medical Center in Denver.
