A man was arrested early Thursday after breaking into a home in Jefferson County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were sent to a home in the 5500 block of South Eldridge St. in Morrison about 3:10 a.m. after a report of a home invasion. The caller told dispatchers that someone broke down the front door and was wandering inside the home, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Two people who were home armed themselves with handguns and hid in the basement before crawling out of the home through an egress window.

A K9 officer and his K9 partner, Geist, responded to the home and commanded the intruder to “show themselves to deputies,” according to the release. He failed to comply with the demands and was found hiding behind a couch by Geist.

Aris Ashford, 39, suffered bite wounds from the dog and was transported to St. Anthony Hospital for his injuries. He was later taken into police custody and booked into the Jefferson County Detention Facility.

Ashford is being held on suspicion of committing second-degree burglary, criminal mischief and theft, according to the sheriff’s office.
