WATCH: Kat Cammack accuses Dems of rushing budget vote for weekend party

Florida Republican Rep. Kat Cammack went live on Facebook to accuse House Democrats of rushing the vote on the congressional spending bill to make room for their annual retreat in Philadelphia.

“They had hired performers like DJ Jazzy Jeff to perform and, well, I guess that was more important than actually doing the work that they were hired to do,” she said.

Cammack lamented the passing of the omnibus funding bill, which she voted against.

“Last night, we were on the House floor voting until close to midnight on these massive packages that, let’s be honest, nobody has read,” Cammack said. “They dropped the legislation at 1:22 in the morning yesterday, gave about 12-ish hours for us to read over 2,700 pages of legislative text, and there was very little debate, no amendments, nothing.”

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries wrote a Dear Colleague letter Wednesday afternoon assuring fellow Democrats that the “current plan and expectation” was “to travel to Philadelphia immediately following the conclusion of the final votes of the day.”

Top climate adviser Gina McCarthy and Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh were slated to speak at the retreat but were replaced by Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. President Joe Biden is also expected to speak Friday.

The Florida lawmaker lambasted the party for breaking the “72-hour rule” that gives house members at least that long to read a piece of legislation before it goes to the floor. The rule was ratified in February 2021 but also provides the House with several means to waive the rule.
