Biden urges Democratic staffers to ‘put it all out there’ as midterm losses expected

President Joe Biden spent Monday evening, the night before final ballots are cast in the 2022 midterm elections, virtually rallying the Democratic troops and campaigning in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he won easily two years ago.

Biden has spent significant time in the final weeks of the election campaigning for Pennsylvania Democrats John Fetterman and Josh Shapiro but has otherwise largely avoided traveling to the majority of battleground states this fall.

HERE’S WHERE THE MIDTERM ELECTIONS WILL BE WON AND LOST ACROSS THE COUNTRY

Biden took part in two virtual receptions hosted by the Democratic National Committee on Monday afternoon before leaving the White House.

At the first event, Biden urged DNC officials to continue their get-out-the-vote efforts, even in the face of heavy losses in the House.

“You know, one more night, probably another 30 hours nationwide between now and where we are till the last vote is cast. One more night to do everything we can to win it and to keep it going. Look, if we’re able to hold on, we’re going to be in incredible shape. Imagine what we can do in a second term if we maintain control. I know that sounds like a very high expectation, but I think — anyway, I’m optimistic,” he said near the event’s conclusion. “I want to remind you to remind your teams, with so much at stake for our nation, don’t leave a thing — put it all out there. Go full bore till the last poll closes. Make that extra call — not a joke. Knock on that extra door. Most of all, keep the faith. Remind the folks that the power is in their hands.”

During the second event, the president turned his focus on “MAGA Republicans,” whom he called “some of the darkest forces we’ve ever seen in our history.”

“These MAGA Republicans are a different breed of cat,” he exclaimed. “This is not your father’s Republican Party. It’s a different deal.”

The president will also speak Monday night at a rally for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Wes Moore at Bowie State University in Prince George’s County, where Biden earned 89.3% of the vote in the 2020 general election.

While the Senate remains a toss-up, Republicans are expected to reclaim a majority in the House on Tuesday. Final election forecasts have given Republicans a near 30-seat advantage over Democrats, with roughly 26 races still viewed as toss-ups. Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement that Biden and Democrats “are out-of-touch and put power over people.”

“Joe Biden’s closing message to voters is to divide, lie, and duck blame for his failures on everything from soaring inflation to out-of-control crime. Our country deserves leaders who take accountability and understand the issues facing hardworking families,” she said in a statement. “Republicans will win because we are taking our optimistic vision to every corner of the country and sharing our commonsense message that resonates with all Americans.”
