Ted Cruz hit by flying beer can at Astros World Series parade

Someone threw a beer at Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) during the World Series parade for the Houston Astros, leading to an arrest on Monday.

As seen in viral video posted to social media, the senator was on the bed of a jeep at the time of the incident, and someone standing next to Cruz appeared to try and block the flying brew. Booing could be heard in the footage.

Despite the attempt to shield the senator, the can struck Cruz near the chest and neck area of his body, the Houston Police Department wrote on social media, after which a 33-year-old man was taken into custody.

“Nearby HPD officers arrested the male without further incident,” police stated. “He was taken to jail and faces assault charges.”

Cruz did not require medical attention after the incident, according to police.

The police department will release the suspect’s name and a photo of him once charges are filed, the department added.

As of Monday evening, Cruz has not referenced the incident on his social media.
