Littleton man arrested after woman falls to death from hotel in NYC

A Littleton man faces charges of assault in the case of a 20-year-old Colorado woman who fell to her death in New York City Tuesday.

Police arrested Tyler Griffin, 24, on suspicion of assault, reckless endangerment and acting in a manner injurious to a child under 17, a New York Police Department spokesperson said via email Friday.

While police have not released the victim’s identity, she appears to be Dezirae Andersen, 20, from Colorado, according to a GoFundMe page made by Andersen’s mother Cheryl Valenzuela and posts from Andersen’s friends and family on Facebook.

According to Andersen’s profile on Facebook and family and friends’ posts, Andersen was a model from Denver, Colorado.

The fatal incident occurred at 10:27 p.m. EDT Tuesday, when New York police responded to a 911 call about an assault in progress at a Times Square hotel at 157 W. 47th St., according to the NYPD spokesperson.

Responding officers found the victim unconscious and unresponsive on the second floor scaffolding outside the hotel, her injuries indicating that she fell from an elevated position, according to the spokesperson.

She was pronounced dead on scene.

Further investigation determined that, prior to her fatal fall, the victim had a fight with Griffin in a hotel room at the location of the incident. An 8-month-old baby girl was present, according to the spokesperson.

According to the GoFundMe page by Andersen’s mother, Griffin was Andersen’s boyfriend and the 8-month-old was her daughter.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the victim’s cause of death and her identity will be released by officials at a later date.
