Denver Philharmonic Orchestra invites 341,000-member Reddit community to free concert
A Reddit user claiming to be the executive director of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday invited an entire subreddit to attend their concert for free.
“There’s nothing I hate more than a concert with empty seats knowing there are people out there who could have enjoyed a concert,” Reddit user OzarkYodeler posted on the r/Denver subreddit. “Maybe someone couldn’t afford the ticket, maybe folks didn’t know it was happening. I want to send out the invite to everyone tonight and give the gift of classical music.”

A call to Denver Philharmonic Orchestra on Friday to verify the authenticity of the post was not immediately returned.
The Reddit post had a coupon code to reduce the cost of the tickets for Friday’s ¡Fiesta! concert at Antonia Brico Stage at Central Presbyterian Church at 1660 Sherman St. to $0, and The Denver Gazette was able to verify the coupon code did work. The code also gave users the option to pay just $5 for the ticket in case users felt “too guilty snagging a free ticket,” according to the post.
The gesture was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the Denver online community.
“This is totally rad! Thank you for doing this,” wrote Reddit user thelittlestdot. The user went on to say that after a rough few years, their 4-year-old would get to see his first concert.
“Oh my gosh,” OzarkYodeler responded, “I’m so glad! This alone means the post was worth it.”
Tickets were normally priced at $30 each, and the Reddit user OzarkYodeler offered to buy a beer for anyone who had already purchased tickets and found the deal.
Numerous other users responded with positive comments, several of whom said they were able to secure tickets for the Friday night show.
“Hey, this is amazing! As a classically trained bassist, I applaud this,” wrote user windstride3. “Bravo and thank you!”
