1 dead following shooting in Thornton Topgolf parking lot

One man allegedly shot and killed another in the parking lot of the Thornton Topgolf location, causing the business to shut down on Saturday.

Police responded to a reported shooting in the 16000 block of Grant Street around 1 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from the Thornton Police Department. Officers found a 22-year-old man with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital and later died from his injuries.

Preliminary investigations found that two men were arguing in the parking lot. Police believe both men were employees of Topgolf.  Police say 26-year-old Victor Salazar-Guarache fired the fatal shot.

The Topgolf location remained closed on Saturday, according to a Topgolf representative. A spokesperson from the police department stressed that the incident did not occur within the business.

Thornton investigators alerted nearby jurisdictions of Salazar-Guarache, attempting to find him. He was identified and arrested by Weld County deputies without incident, according to the release. He has since been jailed at the Adams County Detention facility and faces charges of homicide.

The identity of the victim is being held until identification by the Adams County Coroner’s Office. Police continue to investigate the incident.
