Denver weather: Sunny skies return, highs in the 40s

Following a few rounds of overnight flurries, Denver is forecast for sunny skies Thursday and highs in the 40s, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. 

Expect partly sunny conditions today and a high of 40 degrees. A calm breeze from the northwest is forecast to roll through the area at 5 mph.

Looking ahead to Thursday night, expect partly cloudy skies and a low bottoming out at 26 degrees.

Temps are expected to shoot back up to the 50s Friday, where they’ll linger for the rest of the weekend.

Today in Denver weather history:

In 1939: More than two weeks of unseasonably warm weather made the month the 3rd warmest on record. Seven daily temperature records were set, including the all time record high temperature for the month of 79 degrees on the 5th. Daytime highs were balmy with 14 days in the 60’s and 70’s. Low temperatures dipped to freezing or below on only 5 days. The period was dry with only a trace of snow on the 12th.

Sunday: Expect sunny skies and a high of 59 degrees.
