Denver will open severe weather shelters Christmas Eve and Day

Denver plans to activate its severe weather shelters Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as cold weather and snow have been forecast to move in this weekend.

Denver Navigation Campus, 4040 Quebec St., will be open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday and Monday nights, according to a city news release.

The city encourages homeless people to come inside on those nights and ask people to intake at front door shelters.

Denver’s front door shelters include the following:

  • For individual men: Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St.
  • For individual women: Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St.
  • For youth ages 15 to 20: Urban Peak, 2100 Stout St.

Families who need shelter are urged to call the Connection Center at 303-295-3366. 

The city will have buses to transport people from St. Francis Center, 2323 Curtis St., to the Denver Navigation Campus between 6:30 and 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday nights.

Denver Department of Housing Stability (HOST) and its shelter and outreach partners monitor weather and shelter usage to activate severe weather and shelter expansions as necessary, according to the city’s website.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday is forecast to see a high near 32 degrees and a 60% chance of snow. The low is forecast to be 14 degrees.

Monday’s high is forecast to be 32 degrees with a low Monday evening of 17 degrees.
