Denver will activate two emergency shelters for homeless people four days straight in light of a potentially cold and snowy weekend.
The Department of Housing Stability plans to open overnight shelters at the former DoubleTree hotel at 4040 Quebec St. and the former Best Western at 4595 Quebec St.
The city, during previous emergency shelter days, has used the hotel ballrooms to keep homeless people inside from cold weather.
The hotels open 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. from Friday, Jan. 5 to Monday Jan. 8. Buses will transport those seeking shelter from St. Francis Center, 2323 Curtis St., between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. every night.
Homeless people seeking other shelter can go to three other locations:
- For individual men – Lawrence Street Community Center, 2222 Lawrence St.
- For individual women – Samaritan House, 2301 Lawrence St.
- For youth ages 15-20 – Urban Peak, 2100 Stout St.
These “front door” shelter access points are said to be expanding capacity for cold weather, according to a news release.
Families in need of shelter can call the Salvation Army Connection Center at 303-295-3366.
