Holy bank robberies, Batman! FBI searches for ‘Penguin Bandit’ in Denver

Someone light up the Bat Signal — the Penguin is on the loose in Denver.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday released surveillance images of a suspected bank robber who they have nicknamed the “Penguin Bandit” due to his distinctive walking gait that makes it look like he’s waddling.

The FBI said the Penguin Bandit is believed to have waddled into three different credit unions and robbed them, and cased a fourth credit union, within the span of two weeks.

According to the FBI, the Penguin Bandit hit the Zing Credit Union at 1095 N. Federal Boulevard on Jan. 2 and then robbed two Canvas Credit Unions — at 2027 S. University Blvd. and 815 N. Colorado Blvd. — on back-to-back days on Jan. 8 and 9. He was later spotted casing the Canvas Credit Union at 7055 E. Evans Ave. on Jan. 16, officials said.

Authorities described the suspect as a White man in his mid 30s to mid 40s, about 6 feet tall, with a heavy build and blue eyes.

The FBI is asking the public to be on the lookout for anyone who matches the description.

“Be aware of anyone similar who might have recently changed their spending habits or discussed coming into money suddenly,” the FBI said in a news release.

The Penguin Bandit is between 35 and 45 years old and roughly six feet tall with blue eyes, the FBI says.
