Boulder County moves self-service vehicle registration kiosk
Boulder residents attempting to renew their vehicle registration at the county’s Motor Vehicle Express Kiosk should beware. The kiosk is no longer located at its original placement.
The self-service vehicle registration kiosk was initially placed by Boulder County in the lobby of the Boulder County Clerk and Recorder’s office at 1750 33rd Street. It has since been moved to inside the King Soopers at 30th Street and Arapahoe Avenue, about a block away, according to a news release from the county.
The initial location was hindered by the office lobby operating hours, according to the release. Now, the kiosk will be available seven days a week, whenever the King Soopers location is open.
The machine — resembling an ATM with bright yellow and blue colors — allows residents to renew their vehicle registration on the spot. With just the license plate and VIN numbers, owners can pay for their license plate renewals, immediately printing the updated tag sticker. Drivers can use the machine up to 12 months after their plates expire.
Boulder continues to absorb the $3.95 usage fee for all residents at the three kiosk locations — the Boulder location, in Longmont at the Horizon Park Center and in Louisville at South Boulder Road. There is a $0.50 charge for checks or a 2.3% charge for credit and debit cards, though, according to the release.
“We know that if you need to get your registration renewed in a hurry, that not being able to get to the office during business hours was a challenge,” Payton Quistorff, Boulder County Clerk and Recorder Motor Vehicle Division Leader, said in the release.
