3 arrested in connection to fatal Aurora shooting
Aurora Police officers arrested three suspects in connection to a fatal shooting and pursuit that ended with the suspects’ vehicle getting stuck in the snow.
Cameron Mooty, 31, Stephan Cherry, 32, and Corey Allen, 26, were arrested on Friday morning following a shooting in the 14600 block of East Second Avenue. The three suspects face charges of second-degree murder, according to a news release from the Aurora Police Department.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at the condominium complex around 3 a.m. Friday. Upon arrival, officers found 24-year-old Theresa Burke suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers performed lifesaving actions, but she later died on the scene. She was identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday.
Mooty, Cherry and Allen fled the scene in a moving truck, according to the department. Officers pursued the truck until it stopped near E-470 and Pena Boulevard, when the truck became stuck in the snow.
Officers “quickly” detained the three suspects, according to the release. Mooty had suffered a gunshot wound during the incident, but it’s unclear when or how the injury occurred.
Cherry and Allen were arrested on outstanding felony warrants while Mooty was transported to a nearby hospital. The two were later booked into jail on suspicion of second-degree murder charges.
Mooty will be booked on the same charges following his release from the hospital, police said.
“Several” firearms were seized from the truck after the incident, the department said. The Major Crime Homicide Unit’s investigation continues.
