Police pursuit ends in Lakewood with shooting
Roads closed amid a large police presence near Second Avenue and Garrison Road in Lakewood early Tuesday.
Thornton police reported “officer involved shooting in Lakewood after pursuit,” according to a social media post on X at 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Thornton police issued a press release at 7:25 a.m. reporting two people had been killed by officers.
The incident started about 2:37 a.m. Tuesday when officers “saw a suspicious car with no license plates in the area of E 84th Ave. and Washington St.”
Police followed to car to Sheridan Boulevard and Alameda Avenue, where “an occupant from the car exited and fired a gun at officers,” according to a press release.
The chase continued to 2nd Avenue and Garrison, where two people got out of the car “at least one with a handgun.”
Investigators said identifications will be made by the Jefferson County Coroner pending family notifications and autopsies.
The officers involved have been placed on leave, as per protocol, pending an investigation by the Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team.
