Suspect in fatal Federal Heights stabbing arrested in Mexico

A suspect potentially fleeing from first-degree murder charges in Federal Heights was apprehended in Mexico.

Officers began searching for 35-year-old Adrian Carracedo-Vega following a fatal stabbing that occurred in Federal Heights on Dec. 30. Police issued a nationwide warrant at the beginning of January and believed the suspect was heading Texas or attempting to cross the border.

The suspect was arrested in Mexico due to the “incredible work of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force,” a spokesperson with the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said on Wednesday.

Federal Heights police officers initially responded to a call reporting a stabbing around 3:30 p.m., Dec. 30 outside of the Tuscan Heights Apartments, at 1700 W. 85th Ave.

Police, Fire and EMS personnel arrived and administered emergency treatment to the victim, Sachely Diaz, 20. She was later transported to North Suburban Hospital where she died from her injuries, Federal Heights police said following the incident.

The 17th District Attorney’s Office officially filed first-degree murder charges against Carracedo-Vega on Jan. 9 and believed that he was on the run toward Texas or beyond.

Carracedo-Vega will be extradited back to Colorado shortly, the spokesperson said.
