A crash in Commerce City has left one man dead and another in critical condition Saturday morning, police say.
Commerce City Police responded to a crash on Highway 85 near East 56th Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Saturday, according to a social media post from the department. Following the crash, two men were transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The serious crash occurred when a car seemingly ran a red light, the department said. An SUV turning onto East 56th Avenue with the right-of-way then ran into the vehicle. The SUV hit the back of the car, causing it to crash into a nearby guard rail.
The two males inside of the car were injured in the incident. One of them passed away later, according to a subsequent post by the department.
This marks the second severe crash on Highway 85 in Commerce City over the last few days. The first occurred on Thursday when a hit-and-run near 104th Avenue caused a massive crash including a semi truck and dump truck.
Both northbound and southbound sides of Highway 85 were closed following the crash on Thursday afternoon.
