Alleged teen LoDo shooter hearing postponed

FILE PHOTO: Keanna Rosenburgh, 17, was extradited from California to Colorado after weeks on the run. Surveillance video showed that she allegedly shot into a crowd and injured five people Sept. 16. She faces 28 criminal counts, including seven counts of attempted murder and 15 counts of assault. Prosecutors announced last September that she will be tried as an adult.

The 17-year-old who allegedly opened fire into a crowd outside of a LoDo bar last September has a hearing to determine whether she will be tried as an adult more than a year after the shooting, September 25.
Keanna Rosenburgh injured five people who happened to be waiting to get into Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row on the corner of 20th and Market Sept. 16, according to Denver police.
Prosecutors filed a motion for a reverse transfer hearing. A person who is less than 18 years of age is considered a juvenile under Colorado law, but 2nd Judicial District Attorney Beth McCann charged her with 28 counts — including eight counts of attempted murder and multiple assault charges and one count of a juvenile in possession of a handgun.
Stan Garnett, former Boulder DA and now Boulder criminal defense attorney said that “it’s always difficult to find the right balance in juvenile cases involving guns and multiple victims.”
The 28 criminal counts Rosenburgh faces include:
- 8 Counts of Attempted Murder
- 7 Counts of Assault in the First Degree
- 1 Count of Assault in the Second Degree
- 3 Counts of Attempt to Commit Assault in the First Degree
- 3 Counts of Attempt to Commit Assault in the Second Degree
- 1 Count of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm
- 1 Count of Juvenile in Possession of a Handgun
Rosenburgh, upset at being turned away from the entrance of Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row, left the entrance to the bar, returned with a handgun and started shooting into a crowd on the sidewalk, according to Denver police investigators. She was on the run for more than a month before she was arrested in Barstow, California Oct. 19.
Rosenburgh was a high school student in Lakewood.
Her arrest involved multiple agencies including FBI, LA SWAT team, FBI LA Desert Cities Safe Street Task Force and the Barstow Police Department.
The possibility that a district attorney may file criminal charges against a juvenile as an adult increases with the age of the juvenile, the severity of the crime, and the juvenile’s past history of delinquency.
