Denver weather: Early sun with afternoon showers possible
I hope you were able to catch the northern lights last night, we had a dazzling show over most parts of Colorado that didn’t have to deal with the cloud cover!
Unfortunately if you’re hoping to catch the northern lights tonight, you’ll probably have to trek up into Wyoming. Clouds increase today thanks to a pesky upper-level low that’ll churn up showers and storms (and snow mainly above 9,000 feet in elevation) from south-to-north, and that means we’ll be mainly cloudy across the Eastern Plains tonight.
That’ll also lead to increasing clouds today for the Denver area, with the best chance for a shower or storm south of town. We’ve got a chance for a late day storm in Denver also, but odds for rain will be higher south of town.
Extended forecast:
Clouds will stick around tonight and into Mother’s Day, and your Mother’s Day looks unsettled. That same slow-moving low will spin closer to our region tomorrow, meaning we’ll wake up to clouds and likely a few showers as well. We may briefly clear out late tomorrow morning and/or early tomorrow afternoon, only for a few more showers and storms to develop for the afternoon. These look more widespread than today’s for the Denver area and most of the Eastern Plains.
Monday will see skies briefly clear out and temperatures will rebound as well, with highs in the 70s in Denver, a few degrees above our seasonal average in the upper 60s.
Clouds roll back in once again for Tuesday afternoon ahead of a cold front, one that’ll drop our temperatures and bring us clouds and widespread showers and storms are looking likely for Wednesday.
We’ll clear out and warm up for the end of the week and likely into the start of next weekend as well.
Sorry about the unsettled forecast for Mother’s Day, but enjoy the drier and warmer weather on Monday!
