Denver weather: More wind on Tuesday, freeze watch in effect

Winds that wreaked havoc in the Denver area on Monday should be less on Tuesday, but residents will need to prepare for a possible freeze overnight and early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Tuesday is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high of 62 degrees and a 10% chance of thunderstorms after noon, the NWS said.

Winds of 20-25 mph should decrease after midnight, but the NWS has placed Denver and surrounding areas under a freeze watch from midnight to 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Across the plains wind gusts will be in the 40 to 50 mph range with a few higher gusts over the Palmer Divide. “Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possible damage unprotected outdoor plumbing,” NWS warns.
