More than 150 activists on Monday gathered at the state Capitol to protest the two-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe V. Wade.
The protesters took to the streets, marching through downtown Denver with a police escort. Marches also took places in several cities nationwide.

The June 24, 2022 ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization sparked legislative actions and protests across the country. The decision removes the longstanding federal framework that governed the parameters of abortion and instead gives the states the ability to define the contours of their abortion statutes.
The court’s decision means a more permissive abortion law affirming the right to an abortion now governs the procedure in Colorado. The Colorado law recognizes a fundamental right to continue a pregnancy and give birth, or to have an abortion without any time restrictions.
The protesters paused in the intersection of Broadway and Colfax for a “moment of silence.” Drivers inconvenienced by the protest honked at the march.
“Find something better to do!” one driver yelled as he made a U-turn onto Colfax.
“Oh, is our protest inconvenient for you?” one woman said afterwards. “You know what else is inconvenient? Not having rights.”
In a news release, Women’s Strike, which organized the protest, called on women to refrain from working, going to school and spending in order to “demonstrate the significant impact of women’s contributions to the economy and to raise awareness about the critical issues affecting women today.”
“We grieve the overturning of Roe v. Wade because it was a catalyst moment that created a snowball effect of ripping away women’s rights,” Carley Richardson, one of the organizers, said in a statement. “Our presence at Capitol Hill in Denver will be a testament to the resilience and strength of women everywhere. The goal of this event is to demonstrate the unity of women and their allies so we can understand how powerful we truly are.”
