For more than a decade, the City of Golden’s website has become a familiar one-stop shop for more than 800,000 visitors each year looking for all things Golden.
But now Golden has a brand new website — and a brand new URL to go with it.
CityofGolden.net is now CityofGolden.gov.
“This site replaces one that originated in 2011, so there have certainly been some significant technological changes since then, one being the importance of authentic and trusted resources.” Golden Director of Communications and Engagement Meredith Ritchie said. “A .gov gives our viewers confidence that the site is legitimate; transferring to a .gov is a significant overhaul, so it seemed appropriate to do so while transitioning to this new website design.”
Visitors to the new site will find the layout and organization much different than before.
“The site has been built with significant time and detail to being as user-friendly and engaging as possible with meaningful information and resources that will continue to evolve with the City,” Ritchie said.
“Rather than the traditional government website format, we’ve opted for a layout that feels more natural and intuitive,” according to a statement by city officials announcing the new site. “It’s designed to provide a more user-friendly experience.”
Featured photos on the website showcase local residents, community members, and city staff.
New additions include an online “Fix It!” tool for reporting infrastructure issues like potholes and broken streetlights.
There’s a guide for new residents, e-notifications, a parks and trail search function. All city-wide, neighborhood-specific, and master plans are now consolidated in one online location.
Redirects from the city’s old website will continue for some time.
“Eventually, the .net will be closed, and visitors will only be able to visit by directly going to .gov but that will be over time and with plenty of communication around the transition beforehand,” Ritchie said.
